Earlier today, NASA put up amazing high-definition video from the cameras mounted on Endeavour’s solid rocket boosters. The footage documenting the separation of the SRBs and their return to earth is worth a peek. (Turn up the volume on your speakers; the sound is quite eerie.) Unlike the external tank, which burns up in the atmosphere after it is jettisoned from the shuttle, the SRBs are outfitted with parachutes, which help slow their descent; they are then retrieved by boats for later use. Or rather, they were. There’s only one shuttle launch left.
